Ah yes, the day our functional televisions were replaced with temperamental digital boxes that constantly cut out or garbled up the picture and audio in ways that analog T.V. never did, rendering broadcasts unwatchable much of the time. All so the local channels could continue broadcasting their old SD catalog over an HD signal. Boy, that transition sure was great and worthwhile...

I was 14 years old when this conversion happened. I do remember there were still some delays going on to where analog was around in 2011 for me, certain channels were not that major so the transition happened much later after the June 12, 2009 cutoff date which was the extension date. I remember I would watch TV on the VCR upstairs in this house that I lived in for 7 years and my family had Insight Cable at the time. I still remember when AIM, MSN, and Yahoo Messenger were still around at that time and the big, bulky TVs as well. So much has changed in the world over the past 14 years and I’m 28 now

In Russia, big 10 federal channels ("The First Multiplex") switched to digital in 2010-2011 (because of the size of the country, regions were switched one by one). Second ten were switched by 2013. By 2023, only 20 free federal channels are broadcasting digital signal over air, third multiplex was cancelled and partially works only in Moscow. All federal analogue stations were decomissioned by 2019, only some small local regional channels still broadcast analogue signals.

NGL, this feels a bit nostalgic already. Analog TV waves served the world for almost a century, and now those bands are probably going to be recycled for new digital applications.

Digital TV is such an improvement. Analog had its time and brought entertainment and news into households for decades. The fact that we can get such a clear picture over an antenna... even better than what cable provides us, is something rather awesome.

Im more amazed twitter existed before the transition. I'm 30, but now I feel much older.

So, how are we better off, 14 years later? How has Congress improved A GODDAM THING?
